Raymond Leo Epplin's Obituary
Raymond Leo "Ray" Epplin, age 91, of Pinckneyville, IL passed away on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2:30 a.m. at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Ray was born on March 30, 1917 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Frank and Adeline "Ollie" (Wesslen) Epplin. He was a veteran serving with both the United States Army, and then the United States Navy during World War II. On September 27, 1949, he married Doris Mae Hill in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He had retired as a coal miner from Consol Coal Company, and as a farmer, and had also worked for 27 years at Pinckneyville Equipment, an International Dealer. Ray was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL, and Perry County Farm Bureau. He had served as a Pyatt Community 4-H leader and a C.Y.O. Leader and enjoyed creating and painting yard signs. Survivors include his wife: Doris Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL, three children: Dennis (Jan) Epplin of Mt Vernon, IL, Denise (Bill) Thimmig of Pinckneyville, IL and Terry (Tracy) Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL, a brother: Anthony Epplin of San Diego, CA, a sister: Phyllis Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL, five grandchildren: Andrea Thimmig, Jenna (David) Deville, Jill (Matt) Keller, Reggie (Lyndsey) Epplin, and Brianne Epplin, and three great-grandchildren: Dylan Keller, Daxen Deville, and Kamon Deville. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter: Anita Epplin, a granddaughter: Jaime Epplin, and a sister: Bernadine Eisfelder. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno School or masses.
