Pernie Hensley, age 86, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 6:20 a.m. in Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County, Murphysboro, IL. Pernie was born on July 28, 1923 in Tamaroa, IL, a daughter to Arbie Read Obituary
I took piano lessons from Mrs. Hensley for a few years in the early 90s. She was always patient, and I remember she always spoke of her late husband very fondly and sometimes tearfully. She was my very first piano teacher and I am continuing the legacy through teaching piano lessons now myself. I didn't know she had passed until now. Rest in peace.
I am very sad to read of Pernie's passing. She was my piano teacher for several years during high school. I would drive to her house after school and she would always greet me with a warm smile. She taught me with patience (though I did not have much musical talent). She will be missed and is in my thoughts and prayers.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Mrs. Hensley's passing and pray for her family at this difficult time. She was a wonderful person and a colleague of mine at Pinckneyville District 212 School. Michael and myself can remember Mrs. Hensley being a teacher. She was my 3rd and 4th grade teacher at CC 212 school. I can still hear her playing the piano. Mrs. Hensley was a special lady.

Last night I was privileged to performed in a concert with a small school in Radom, IL and heard about her passing and hour before. Many selections we performed Pernie had taught me. It brought back so many heartfelt memories.
Pernie was my music teacher from 1962 through 1968 at Community Consolidated 208, Tamaroa, IL. Because of her special attention I was able to play the organ and accompany the choir and congregation on my 9th birthday for our church's Christmas Eve Midnight Liturgy with 10 minutes notice. What she had taught me about confidence, focusing and playing and singing simultaneously made it a wonderful service; and, made it possible.
Today, performning around the area of Illinois and Missouri and with the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus are all possible because of her special attention and love of teaching and sharing.
My dear Mrs. Hensley; may you have a wonderful Christmas with the Heavenly Choir. Heaven will be blest with your singing and praising.

She was a good Christian lady.
I have known Pernie all my life. She taught with my dad,Charles Neville. Richard and I went to school together at 204 and PCHS. Pernie was a dear lady and will be missed by all who knew her. The family has my sincere sympathy.
