Pearl L. Young's Obituary
Pearl L. Young, age 87, of Oakdale, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 5:04 p.m., in his home surrounded by family.
Pearl was born on July 25, 1937, in Jamestown, IL, a son to Henry and May (Smith) Young. He worked in the machine shop at Caterpillar and worked as a bus driver, custodian, and a store clerk at Home Depot. Pearl honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Oakdale, IL. Pearl loved to ride his bike, go walking, sitting on the porch watching birds and other animals. He loved being outdoors and was a jokester. Pearl enjoyed being on the river when living in Ancona, IL and looking at nature. He loved woodworking, making crafty projects and furniture. Pearl also collected all sorts of things.
Survivors include his nieces, Nancy Kuhnert of Carmi, IL, Karla Greshan of Swanwick, IL, Rita Greshan of Pinckneyville, IL, Linda Craig of Valier, IL, Mary Jones of Rockwood, IL, and Kim Thornton of Festus, MO; one cousin, Carolyn Lively of Steeleville, IL; three step-brothers, Johnny Peeler of AL, Edward Peeler of Elkville, IL, and Jerry Peeler of AR; former in-laws, The Vickery family of Randolph County, IL; close friends, Vicki Jones of Northern, IL, and Karen (Dean) Geinski of Northern, IL; and lots of Oakdale friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Carl L. Young, three siblings, Luetta Queen, Anna Kuhnert, and William Young; three nephews, Larry Queen, David Queen, and Kevin Young; and two great-nephews, Larry Musielak, Jr., and Victor Leber.
It was Pearl’s wishes to be cremated with no services at this time.
