Paul Mohr's Obituary
Paul Douglas Mohr, age 74, of New York, NY, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, died at Haven Manor Health Care Center, New York, NY on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
Paul was born September 16, 1943 in Medford, OR, a son of Dr. George D. and Helen P. (Bradbury) Mohr. Paul was talented at many trades. After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago with his Master's degree in sculpting, he moved to New York City to be a part of the art scene, where he connected with actors, poets and other likeminded artists. He loved to draw, paint, and was a successful sculptor. Some of Paul's many professions included teaching art, transporting art for various museums, tending bar, modeling, as well as many other occupations. He also had a great fondness for dogs, owning nine at one time. We can only imagine walking nine dogs at once around the streets of New York. During Paul's modeling career he secured spots as a male fashion model in the 1960's Sears and Roebuck Catalog, Time, Life, and Gentleman's Quarterly magazines. That made mom proud and she loved showing them off to her bridge club. Paul was so entertaining to talk with. He could talk to anybody about anything from art, sports, politics and world issues.
The entire Mohr family remembers playing his favorite game called "Hand me the ball, please." When we were younger, Paul would sit in a chair and hold his hand out, singing this slow cantor: "Hand me the ball, please, hand me the ball, please." The object of the game was to place a small ball in his hand, run away as fast as you can while he laughed and flung the ball at your back side. If he missed, it was your turn to sit in the chair, but that never happened and regardless of how much it stung, we always came back for more.
Paul is survived by his brothers, Rev. Richard Mohr of Marion, IL, Steve (Deb) Mohr of Naperville, IL, and J.J. (Kelli) Mohr of Mt. Vernon, IN; his sisters, Barbara (Richard) Umbdenstock of Spokane, WA, Theresa (Gary) Svanda of Madera, CA, and Loretta (Larry) Klein of Chicago, IL; and over thirty nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Debbie (Toler) Mohr.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Richard Mohr officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends may call at St. Bruno Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
