Norman A. Norris' Obituary
Norman A. Norris, age 86, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. in Fair Acres Nursing Center, DuQuoin, IL. Norman was born on July 20, 1925 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Clarence and Irene (Keil) Norris. On August 17, 1946, he married Louise Kunkel in DuQuoin, IL and she preceded him in death on December 4, 1982. He then married Kathryn Valerius on May 5, 1985 in DuQuoin, IL and she survives. Norman was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving as a Seaman 1st Class during WW II, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL and was a coal miner for Freeman Coal, retiring after 40 years. Norman was a member of V.F.W. Post 513, DuQuoin, IL American Legion Post 647, DuQuoin, IL and the U.M.W.A. He enjoyed dancing, woodworking in his shop and loved working with his electric trains. Norman is survived by his wife, Kathryn Norris of DuQuoin, IL; one son, Ronald (Cynthia) Norris of DuQuoin, IL; two daughters, Norma (Richard) Johnson of DuQuoin, IL and Phyllis (Donald) Learned of Benton, IL; one brother, Harold (Hellen) Norris of Alabama; five grandchildren, Tammy, Kurt, Dianna, Jeremy, Thresa, and Amanda; four great-grandchildren; two step children, Ed (Jinx) Fish of Centralia, IL and Jo (Bill) Howard of Aurora, IL; five step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Nick Junker officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Military rites will be provided by V. F. W. Post 513 and American Legion Post 647, DuQuoin, IL. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL or the American Heart Association.
