Norma Jean Swetland's Obituary
Norma Jean Swetland, age 89, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 9:03 a.m., at her daughter's home in Wingo, KY.
Norma Jean was born on November 12, 1933 in DuQuoin, IL, a daughter to William and Pearl (Pierce) Cook. On July 15, 1955, she married Wilburn E. Swetland in DuQuoin, IL and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2015 after 60 years of marriage. In her lifetime, she had worked at Turco and Charmglow, as a seamstress at Bridal Originals, and as a CNA. Norma Jean had attended the First Baptist Church, DuQuoin, IL. She loved making Raggedy Ann dolls and their clothing, upholstering, arts and crafts. She always had very close family ties and helped to raise her eleven younger siblings.
Survivors include her three sons, Stephen (Cathy) Swetland of Gallitan, TN, Gordon (Alice) Swetland of Johnson City, TN, and Mike (Marci) Swetland of Tamaroa, IL; her daughter, Lee Ann (Rusty) Sutton of Pinckneyville, IL; a brother, Jimmy (Marvelon) Cook; five sisters, Joan (Bob) Mallott, Sharon (Chuck) Welch, Janice (Kenny) Hart, Joyce Lucas, and Kathy Stanton; ten grandchildren, Stephen (Linda) Swetland of AK, Aaron (Crystal) Swetland of TN, Amanda (Adam) Findley of PA, Mallory Swetland of PA, Molly (Dominic) Baldoni of MD, Heath (Tricia) Swetland of IL, Sage (Tammy) Swetland of IL, Collin Swetland of IL, Avery Swetland of IL and Sierra (Nathan) Webb; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Billy Dean Cook, Bryan Cook, and Bobby Cook; and two sisters, Nancy McClanahan and Ruth Ann Reeves.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Paradise Cemetery, Tamaroa, IL.
Visitation will be Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Perry County Child Advocacy Center, Pinckneyville, IL.
