Norma Jean Harlan, age 84, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL. Norma Jean was born on March 5, 1930 in Makanda, IL, a daughter to Hollie and Carrie (Starling) Harlan. She was a life member of Gospel Assembly Church, DuQuoin, IL and loved her church. Norma Jean enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and flowers. Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Harlan of Carbondale, IL and Nancy (Ray) Laffoon of DuQuoin, IL; five nieces and nephews, Kim (Chuck) Weber of DuQuoin, IL, Gale Laffoon of DuQuoin, IL, Sheila (Terry) Glassman of Murphysboro, IL, Keith Spires of Carbondale and Jeff Spires of Carbondale; and six great nieces and nephews, Hayley and Chasey Weber of DuQuoin, IL, Gale (Kati) Laffoon, Jr. of Cutler, IL, Chelsey (Garrett) Emerick of DuQuoin, IL; Tanner Laffoon of DuQuoin, IL and Frank Boucher of Murphysboro, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Spires and great-nephew, Chase Weber. Funeral services will be held at Gospel Assembly Church, DuQuoin, IL on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gaylen Holden officiating. Interment will be in Desoto City Cemetery, Desoto, IL. Friends may call at Gospel Assembly Church, DuQuoin, IL on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
