Nelson Lawrence Giacomo's Obituary
Nelson Lawrence Giacomo, age 94, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 6:40 p.m., in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pinckneyville, IL.
Nelson was born on December 31, 1928 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Joseph and Pearl (Carter) Giacomo. On July 30, 1949, he married Harriet Ann Golliher at Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL and she preceded him in death on September 22, 2019. Nelson proudly served in the United States Marines Corp., during World War II. Nelson worked as a coal miner at Arch Coal of Illinois, Captain Mine and belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #520. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504. He was a 50 year member at the Mitchell Masonic Lodge #85. He was on the school board for District Community Consolidated #212. Nelson loved wood working and made quilt racks and cedar chests for his family. He loved his beagles and his other puppies. He was an avid horsemen and owned quarter horses.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce (Pat) Campbell of Pinckneyville, IL; Peggy (David) Sims of Pinckneyville, IL; Susan Endres of DuQuoin, IL; and Jane Folden of Pinckneyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Eric (Vanessa) Campbell, Kelly (Kent) Epplin, Richel (Kevin) Biby, Jana (Jason) Valentine, Cole Endres, Nick (Angie) Endres, Justin Folden, and Jill (Dustin) Nehrkorn; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Joseph Giacomo and John Giacomo; five sisters, Wilma Wright, Grace Hubler, Zelma Miller, Doreen Lucker, and Virginia Higgerson; and two brothers and two sisters in infancy.
Funeral services will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Mike Higgerson officiating. Interment will be at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, American Heart Association, or Mueller Hill Cemetery Association.
