Nathan L. Barnes-Atterberry's Obituary
Nathan L. Barnes-Atterberry, age 59, of Elkville, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 6:14 p.m., in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Nathan was born on March 17, 1965 in Granite City, IL, a son to William E. and Elizabeth M. (Prater) Barnes. On December 8, 1989, he married Lisa Darlene Dirden at First Christian Church, DuQuoin, IL, and she survives. Nathan worked for over 15 years as a steelworker out of Union 7252, and was a member of the Southern Illinois Childcare Association and CMA. He loved woodworking, motorcycling riding, restoring cars, and helping to raise his grandkids. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Lisa Barnes-Atterberry of Elkville, IL; three daughters, Ashley Burgess (Kraig Reinitz) of Herrin, IL, Rachelle (David) Batson of Elkville, IL, and Hannah Barnes-Atterberry (Cody) Lauderdale of DuQuoin, IL; eleven grandchildren, Taylor, Zachariah, Samual, Jordan, Abby, Kohlbe, Nathan, Gabriel, Noah, Mark, and Kennedy; one sister, Jennifer (Jason) Peterson of Paducah, KY; five sisters-in-law, Connie Jo Simmerman, Billie Clover, Kathy (Steven) Allen, Cindy Moreland, and Laura Lang; one brother-in-law, Lewis (Michelle) Dirden; his Residential Hospice family, Julie, Sirena, Mel, Kara, Kristina and Liz; and his loving cat, Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-parents, Henry M. Atterberry and Stella R. Barnes; two brothers, William E. Barnes, Jr. and Richard D. Barnes, Sr.; one sister, Delilah M. Giacomo; one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Barnes.
Funeral Services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., with Brother Gary Pruitt and Pastor Brian Trambley officiating. Interment will be in Hallidayboro Cemetery, Hallidayboro, IL.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SouthEast Cancer Center, Cape Girardeau, MO or to the family of Nathan Barnes-Atterberry.
