Myrtle "Myrt" Shrum's Obituary
Myrtle "Myrt" Shrum, age 76, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 2:05 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL.
Myrt was born March 18, 1944, a daughter to Wilber M. and Ollie M. (Jones) Thomas. She married Ron Shrum on December 7, 1963, in Nashville, IL. Myrt was a beloved wife and partner, mom, and grandma who was happiest when spending time with her family. She made the best fried fish, hush puppies, and cole slaw, loved a cup of coffee, and enjoyed a good mystery. Myrt was a member of Trinity Assembly of God in Pinckneyville.
Survivors include her husband Ron of almost 57 years; her daughter Rhonda (Luis) Sanchez; her son Craig; her grandson Brendan Shrum and partner Nina Williams; granddaughter Amanda and great-granddaughter Marianna; and grandsons Tony Sanchez and Tommy Sanchez.
Known as "Sis" by her brothers and sisters, Myrt is also survived by Wilbur (Marcella) Thomas; Larry Roger (Bobbie) Thomas; Clara "Butch" (Les) Heflin; Lonnie (Marty) Thomas; Susie (Brice) Richmond; Judy (Vaughn) Motsinger; Shirley (Steve) Mossa; Sherry (Bill) Colston; and Patty (Daren) Martens; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her half-brother Raymond (Betty) Holcomb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dean Thomas and Jim Thomas; and one nephew, Brett Thomas.
A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Cemetery at Rice, IL, with Pastor Keith Tyler officiating. The funeral home requests that all attendees wear a mask.
Due to health concerns related to the Covid-19 virus. Phase Four attendance will be limited to 50 people and social distancing will be enforced.
Memorial donations may be made to the family.
