Mildred "Mick" L. Burris' Obituary
Mildred L. "Mick" Burris, age 92, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 12:25 a.m. in Coulterville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Coulterville, IL. Mick was born on January 1, 1924 in DuQuoin, IL, a daughter to William Les and Lavina (Holland) Jackson. On February 7, 1942, she married Warren Burris in Perryville, MO and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2002 after 60 years of marriage. She had worked at the Secretary of State Office, Pinckneyville, IL for 14 years as well as Perry County Assessor's Office, Pinckneyville, IL. She was a member of Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Club. Mick was also was a member and 1966 Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and member of the Pinochle Club and the Home Extension, Swanwick, IL, a 4-H Leader, Jobs Daughters Guardian Leader, and Literature Secretary of Southern Illinois Presbyterial. She was an exceptional baker known especially for her pies and was a caretaker to many residents and their families at Coulterville Care Center while she lived there. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Horner of Coulterville, IL; two brothers, James Russell (Ivory) Jackson of Alabama and Raymond (Dorothy) Jackson of Columbia, MO; a grandson, Rodney (Kelly) Horner of Tilden, IL; four great-grandchildren, Wesley Horner, Jeremy Horner, Andrew Horner and Jesse Horner; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons in infancy, Rody Burris and Robert Burris; one young son, Stephen Burris; a son-in-law, Alan Horner; a grandson, Dustin Horner; a brother, Leslie Eugene Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Betty Jackson. Funeral services will be held at Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Hackman officiating. Interment will be in Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL. Friends may call at Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation or Coulterville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
