Marjorie T. Smith's Obituary
Marjorie T. Smith, 91, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, formerly of Pinckneyville, Illinois, moved from her room in the Village Springs nursing home into her home with the Lord on June 3, 2013. She was born to Irl and Maude Trefftzs of Pinckneyville, IL. Marjorie was a Bible scholar who had been teaching Sunday School since she was 16, and most recently taught for thirty years at Barcelona Road Baptist Church. She also taught a Bible class for five years at Good Samaritan, and she worked with the Lutheran Braille Ministry for 25 years.
Marjorie and her husband lived in several cities in Illinois before moving to the Village in 1980, and assisted in the starting of ten new SBC churches. Marjorie was at home with her children until they were grown. She then studied at the College of DuPage and worked as a dining room supervisor for Marshall Fields in Oakbrook, IL. Marjorie is survived by her husband, David H. Smith; two daughters, Jan Marie Ward (James), who served on the Clinical Staff of the Virginia Commonwealth University, and Dr. Kerry Smith-Meyer (Lucas), a Clinical Psychologist in Chicago, IL; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irl and Maude Trefftzs; six sisters; and one daughter, Dr. Paula R. King (Harry), Professor Emeritus at Southeastern University in Cape Girardeau, MO.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL, with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Barcelona Road Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 6:30 PM. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL. is in charge of local arrangements.
