Louis "Buck" D. Whitfield's Obituary
Louis D. "Buck" Whitfield, age 82, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 11:28 a.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, IL. Buck was born on June 3, 1933 in Cape Girardeau, MO, a son to Reverend Owen and Zella (Glass) Whitfield. He was a veteran and proudly served his country as a Tech Sergeant for the United States Air Force, retiring after 23 years. Buck loved fishing, traveling, his wife Virginia and spending time with and taking care of his family, especially his grandkids. Survivors include three sons, Anthony (Tina) Whitfield of Aurora, CO, Kevin Whitfield of DuQuoin, IL, and Louis "Speedy" Whitfield, Jr. of Michigan; three daughters, Jackie (Ernest) Wilson of Kansas City, MO, Brenda Whitfield of Elkville, IL, and Kimberly Whitfield of DuQuoin, IL; a brother, Gerald Whitfield of DuQuoin, IL; four sisters, O'Zella Henson of St. Louis, MO, Shirley (Cleotha) Farmer of St. Louis, MO, Josie McGee of DuQuoin, IL and Elma (Joel) Hatchett of Jackson, MO; a home health aide, Alvenia Peters; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Whitfield; and several brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Cleotha Farmer and Reverend Shirley Farmer officiating. Buck's wishes were to be cremated. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Kevin Whitfield.
