Lorraine Elizabeth Walkenhorst's Obituary
Lorraine Elizabeth Walkenhorst, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the age of 95 in Athens, AL. She was born February 26, 1918, the third child and daughter of Albert George and Opal Maude (Taylor) Fones in Abingdon, IL. As a young girl, she moved with her family to the Four-Mile community near Matthews, IL. Great grandparents, John Foens (Fones) and Lydia Lively Foens were early settlers near Cutler, IL.; Henry Vorderbrugge and Charlotte Langcamp Vorderbrugge settled in Randolph Co, IL. Grandparents were John Rolf and Elizabeth Henrietta Vorderbrugge Fones and Lorenzo Donaldson Taylor and Sarah Jane Abbott Taylor. Lorraine married Louis John Walkenhorst Wednesday, March 11, 1936, at Minister W.D. Richardson's home in Vergennes, IL. They settled on the original Walkenhorst homestead near Matthews and lived in that area until 1978 when they retired to Phil Campbell, AL. Momma enjoyed reading and was an expert in quilting, needlework and gardening. Many were recipients of her fine handiwork. She loved flowers and grew them abundantly. Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Patricia Ann (Robert) Parmer, Athens, AL; grandchildren, Pamela Jane (Brad) Korb, AL; Robert Mark (Donna) Parmer, AR; John Daniel (Vickie) Parmer, MI; great grandchildren, Sarah Michelle Korb; William Harrison, Benjamin Robert, John Mark Parmer; John Tyler & Blake Alexander Parmer. Siblings surviving are one sister, Ruth Jane Heiman, Charleston, IL; two brothers, Frank William and Richard Stanley Fones, Galesburg, IL; many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband Louis, July 7, 2007; four sisters, Edna Bertha Denton, Ellen Mae Dunn, Rosetta Irene Ferguson, Mary Leta Blythe; four brothers, Dale Lorenzo, Albert George, Frederick Daniel, Russell Thomas Fones. Three siblings died soon after birth; Alice Louise, Kenneth Robert, David Lee. Lorraine was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville IL . Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday October 2, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with Reverend Jerry Dunn officiating. Pall bearers will be her grandsons and great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Galum Presbyterian Cemetery Association, Pinckneyville, IL.
