Lloyd W. Smith's Obituary
Lloyd W. "Dog'y" Smith, age 87, of Dist. 204, Tamaroa, IL, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 11:45 a.m. in his home. Lloyd was born on January 13, 1919 in Olmsted, IL, a son to William Francis Marion Lloyd and Josie (Jones) Smith. He served as a Staff Sergeant of the United States Army, 35th Division 81mm monitory section 2n3, beach landing in Normandy, France, Germany, Holland, and Belgium and earning a Bronze Star during World War II. He married Evelyn English on November 24, 1945 in Olmsted, IL, and she survives. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Lloyd had worked as a coal miner at Pyramid, Truax Traer, and Consol #2 and was a welder. He was a member of the Nine Mile Baptist Church, Tamaroa, the U.M.W.A. for over 70 years and Local #1825, and the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M., Tamaroa for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife Evelyn of rural Tamaroa, one daughter: Deanna and Ralph Flowers of rural Pinckneyville, five grandchildren: Matthew and Amy Flowers of Pinckneyville, Mark and Sherry Flowers of Pinckneyville, Geanna Flowers of Fairview Heights, IL, Adrian Smith of Coulterville, Jacob Smith and friend Kassy of West Frankfort, IL, and Troy Smith of Pinckneyville, three great-grandchildren: Tyler Ann Flowers of Pinckneyville, and Shay Dylan Flowers of Galatia, and Madelyn Renee Flowers of Pinckneyville, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and one son: Marion Smith. Funeral Services will be held at Nine Mile Baptist Church, Tamaroa on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Kevin Carrothers officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park with graveside military rites being provided by Presswood Daffron American Legion Post #2504. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m., on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. and then at Nine Mile Baptist Church, Tamaroa from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial donations may be made to Luke Memorial Hospice.
