Linda M. Cawvey's Obituary
Linda M. Cawvey, age 82, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 12:25 p.m. in Pinckneyville, IL.
Linda was born on October 6, 1937 to Everett and Edna (Gossman) Rice in Pinckneyville, IL. She was of the Methodist faith. She attended Pinckneyville Community High School, graduating in 1955. In 1952, Linda married Dick Hester. Education was important to Linda. She attended SIU-C and received a Masters Degree in Chemistry and Math. She taught high school math and chemistry in Sesser and Coulterville. Later on, Linda went back to school and got her degree to be a school social worker. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and loved helping and teaching children.
On January 25, 1974, she married the love of her life, Dr. Clarence Eugene "Gene" Cawvey. Together they raised a blended family. She remained with him until he passed away on March 25, 2013.
Linda lived a full adventurous life. She loved to travel the world with her husband, Gene. Together they went to every continent. She loved gardening, skiing, opera, education, playing bridge, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Douglas Hester of Baton Rouge, LA; three stepchildren, Anne (Kevin) Cawvey West of Des Moines, IA, Jeannie Cawvey Brown of Charlottesville, VA and Bill Cawvey; two grandchildren, Genevieve Hester (fiancé, Stacy Hackworth) and Logan Hester; six step-grandchildren, Angela West, Mason Brown, Riley Brown, Alex Hay, Wyatt Stoneking and Polly (Jeff) Dyson; three great-grandchildren, Willow Hester, Gabe and Ava Hackworth; two step-great-grandchildren, Tiana and Noah Dyson; and a sister-in-law, Susan Malan; and Nancy Hester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 39 years, Dr. Clarence Eugene "Gene" Cawvey; a stepdaughter, Janet Cawvey; a brother-in-law, Frank Woosley; and an aunt and uncle, Dorothy (Herman) Benedict; and Dick Hester.
The funeral will be a private family service with interment at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, March 23, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Due to CDC social distant regulations, the number of people permitted inside the funeral home at one time will be regulated.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pinckneyville Public Library or Perry County Historical Society.
