Lester D. Kujawa's Obituary
Lester D. Kujawa, age 88, of Carrier Mills, IL passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 3:48 p.m., in Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Lester was born on October 28, 1936, in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Sylvester John and Thelma Marie (Slusher) Kujawa. Lester served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. On November 25, 1994, he married Ruby Mae French in Paducah, KY, and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2020. Lester worked as a factory worker for Cablec in DuQuoin, IL until his retirement. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and attended at Beaucoup Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL, where he was part of the Senior Adult Men’s Class. He was a naturalist at heart, digging roots, and hunting mushrooms. Lester loved going to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. He was an avid outdoorsman and would hike six miles a day. He loved to watch baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. Lester cherished every moment spent with his family, especially with his beloved children. He possessed a heart of gold and loved people. He rarely met a stranger. His kindness, warmth, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Pam (Randy) Plunkett of Eldorado, IL and Nancy (Gary) Callis of GA; one daughter-in-law, Angella Kujawa of Mineral Point, WI; one brother, John (Lynn) Kujawa of Atchison, KS; one sister, Marilyn Jones of DuQuoin, IL; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Tim) Austin, Joy (Brad) Costephens, Bret Plunkett, Justin Williams, Jordan (Jeremy) Beasley, Joshua (Meggan) Callis, Kyle (Kalia) Callis, and Bruce Kontz; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Ruby Mae Kujawa; and one son, Garry Kujawa.
A memorial service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Brother Mark Lee officiating. Inurnment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL, on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
