Leona Jane Whetstone's Obituary
Leona Whetstone, age 77, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Coulterville Care Center. Leona was born on September 19, 1929 in Thompsonville, IL, a daughter to Bert and Rena L. (Lance) Gunter. On May 7, 1949, she married Virgil Eugene Whetstone in Thompsonville, IL and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1992. Leona loved quilting at the jail house museum, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Pinckneyville and their ladies auxiliary. Survivors include one son: Glen Whetstone of DuQuoin, four daughters: Joyce (James) Halsted of Pinckneyville, Janet Henson of DuQuoin, Melody (Curtis) Bostick of Pinckneyville, and Kimberly (Clay) Hanks of Pinckneyville, six brothers: Deuard (Lorraine) Gunter of Edwards, IL, Paul (Judy) Gunter of Edwards, IL, Leonard (Diane) Gunter of Peoria, IL, Leon (Judy) Gunter of Sulphur, LA, Lloyd (Lenay) Gunter of Edwards, IL, and Dean (Shirley) Gunter of Ziegler, IL, three sisters: Bertha Sullivan of West Frankfort, IL, Elsie Duckworth of Washington, IL, and Louise Hamby of Primfield, IL, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Dale Lee and Gene, one granddaughter: Brandy Sue Whetstone and one son-in-law: Roger Henson. Funeral services will be at the First Apostolic Church, Pinckneyville, on Thursday August 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville. Friends may call at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m., on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m., and then at the church from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
