Lawrence Dean "Larry" Kujawa's Obituary
Lawrence Dean "Larry" Kujawa, age 69, of McAlester, OK, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday evening, August 11, 2016 at 8:45 p.m. in McAlester Regional Health Care, McAlister, OK. Larry was born on March 6, 1947 in Pinckneyville, IL, a third son born to George A. and Gladys M. (Bridges) Kujawa. He was of the Catholic faith. After graduating from Pinckneyville Community High School in 1966, Larry was drafted into the United States Army on November 14, 1966. He served in South Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, reaching the rank of Specialist 5 before being discharged on July 18, 1968.He worked for Zeigler Coal Company, Coulterville Mine as a safety supervisor until the mine closed. He then worked for the Federal Mine Safety Association. He was based in McAlister, OK but traveled to a number of coal mines in Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was a mine inspector for the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Survivors include two brothers, George E. Kujawa of Rockford, IL, and Anthony Ray(Beth)Kujawa of Rotunda West, FL; He was especially fond of nieces, Dana, Denise, Theresa, Tammy, Susan and Kate; nephews, Christopher, and Timothy; and their children, his beloved grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a younger sister, Patricia Kathryn Kujawa; a brother, Timothy Lyle Kujawa and sister-in-law, Patricia Jean. A mass of the Christian burial will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, August 20 ,2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Richard Mohr and Father Christian Iwuagwu officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
