Larry E. Greiner's Obituary
Larry E. Greiner, age 86, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 1:43 p.m., in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on July 18, 1938 in Belleville, IL, a son to Morris and Lois (Spencer) Greiner. Larry graduated from O'Fallon Township High School. He was a mechanical engineer at CK Supply and Gateway Cylinder for over 50 years. On December 10, 1976, he married Joyce Williford in Granite City, IL and she survives. Larry was of the Baptist faith and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. He was the founding member of the E.A.A., Experimental Aircraft Association. Larry was a pilot, fireman, and would assist with underwater rescues. He was a boat, car, and airplane enthusiast, as well as a champion water-skier. Larry had a love for building things, staying busy, and reading. He also used to drag race in his younger years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce Greiner of Pinckneyville, IL; two sons, Rick (Jean) Greiner of Belleville, IL and Ron (Lisa) Greiner of Georgia; three step-daughters, Debra (Charles) Donze of Fairview Heights, IL, Beth Ann Ross of Florida, and Joan Soucy of Alaska; two half-brothers, Todd (Sue) Greiner of West Frankfort, IL and Joe Mayer of Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his two loving dogs, Randy and Cookie.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Morris and Audrey Greiner; mother, Lois Mayer; and one step-sister, Carol Vollmer.
Larry's wishes were to be cremated with a celebration of life on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL, with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. A celebration of life will also take place in Fort Myers Beach, FL in February and in O'Fallon, IL at a later date and time.
Friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. A memorial lunch will be served following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's local Humane Society.
