Katherine Jane Purdy's Obituary
Katherine Jane Oglesby Viglini Purdy, age 94, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 10:15 p.m. in Sparta Community Hospital. Katherine was born on August 4, 1912 in Bond County, MS, a daughter to George W. and Lugene (Cooper) Oglesby. She married James Pierre Viglini on June 26, 1928 in Houston, TX and he preceded her in death. She later married Clyde W. Purdy on November 23, 1943 in Cuero, TX and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1994. While living in Coulterville, she was attended the Coulterville United Methodist Church and her and her husband were the owners of Purdy's Store until 1959. During World War II, she worked at Oloe Field in Victoria, TX as a foreman of airplane panel board instruments. They moved to Port O'Connor, TX in 1952 where she attended Port O'Connor Baptist Church, belonged to Port Lavaca Quilt Guild, worked many years for Richards Drilling Company, and at David Johnson Drilling Co. at Lagniappe Lodge. Katherine enjoyed going to the casinos and Branson, MO, and loved fishing. Survivors include two daughters: Leta (Viglini) Rowney Green of Coulterville, IL, and Pauline (Viglini) and husband Ordith McCauley of Edenburg, TX, six grandchildren: Noral McCauley of Port O'Connor, TX, Gary and wife Paula McCauley of Port O'Connor, TX, Earl and wife Donitza of Houston, TX, Kathy and husband Ed Kinsey of Manvel, TX, Clyde and wife Connie Rowney of Port O'Connor, TX, and Paula and husband John Price of Coulterville, IL, sixteen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, four brothers: Gasque "Red", Marshall, G.W., and Brian Oglesby, two sisters: Mary McLeod, and Rachel Turk, two grandsons: Michael McCauley and Robert Rowney, and one great-great-granddaughter. Katherine will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in Port O'Connor, TX. Her ashes will be interred in Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Coulterville.
