Joyce Kuhnert's Obituary
On April 25, 2019, Helen "Joyce" Kuhnert, 90, of Pinckneyville, went to be with her Lord and Savior. Joyce was born on July 28, 1928, to James William Jefferson and Mary Rosella (Fulton) Hickman. They preceded her in death. She married Leonard Kuhnert on October 19, 1946, in Morganfield, KY. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1999. To this union were born three children, Karen (Ernest) Queen of Westfield, IN, Kevin (Kathryn) Kuhnert of Pinckneyville, and Stephen (Terri) Kuhnert of Pinckneyville. They survive Joyce. Other survivors include grandchildren Andrea (Frank) Pulice of Westfield, IN, Sheryn Queen of Herrin, IL, Jeff (Leah) Wagner of Pinckneyville, Aaron (Erin) Kuhnert of DuQuoin, IL, Nicole (L.J.) Heisner of Pinckneyville, Jana, Dustin (Chelsea), and Allie Kuhnert of Pinckneyville, and Taylor Kuhnert of Troy, MO; fourteen great-grandchildren: Brooke and Camryn Pulice of Westfield, IN; Stephen, David, Andrew, and Blayne Wagner of Pinckneyville; Kadence, Kaitlyn, and Kamryn Kuhnert of DuQuoin; Jacob, Caden, and Sadie Heisner of Pinckneyville; and Braxton and Dempsay Kuhnert of Pinckneyville. Also surviving are sisters, Clodine Dunn of Evansville, IN, and Sylvia Clark of St. Charles, MO; Sister-in-Law Barbara Hickman, Brother-in-Law Ray Blacklock, and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings preceding her in death are sisters Virginia Heidtman and Gloria Jean Blacklock, and brother Jerry Hickman. Brothers-in-law Ford Dunn, Charles Heidtman and Charles Clark also preceded her in death.
Joyce had many jobs, including working at a grocery store in high school, as a taxi driver, at the garment factory, at a dry cleaners, at a laundry, at a Sears Catalog store, and as a bookkeeper, painter, trim finisher, and decorator for her husband's home building business. She was also a homemaker and loved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Her grandchildren loved to walk to her home to play cards and other games, and also to make dilly crackers and paintbrush cookies.
Joyce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville. She was very active in all the churches she attended throughout her life. She supported her husband Leonard in the founding of First Baptist Church in Dwight, IL. While there, she developed a Sunday school program for the children in the church. She later taught Sunday school for many years in other churches. It was her desire for everyone to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Visitation for Joyce will be at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday, April 28, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Jay Lowder officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
In lieu of flowers and per her request, memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville.
