Joseph "Joe" Szczeblewski's Obituary
Joseph "Joe" J. Szczeblewski, age 89, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 p.m. in his home. Joe was born on March 30, 1922 in Tamaroa, IL, a son to John and Dorothy (Kaucharski) Szczeblewski. On February 22, 1943, he married Cecil Stanhouse in Radom, IL and she survives. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL and had worked for Missouri Pacific Railways retiring after 30 years, and had farmed all of his life. Joe enjoyed fishing, pinochle, and listening to Cardinal games on the radio but he dearly loved spending time with his family on Sunday afternoons at his son Jim's house. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Cecil Stanhouse of DuQuoin, IL; seven children, Gretchen Dawson of Mulkeytown, IL, Gary Szczeblewski of Sesser, IL, Jim ("Trish") Szczeblewski of Mulkeytown, IL, Mike (Krista) Szczeblewski of Benton, IL, Tony Szczeblewski of Rantoul, IL, Beth (Mike) Styve of Overland Park, KS, and Nancy Szczeblewski (Charlie Cross) of Sesser, IL; two sisters, Virginia Wisnewski of Tamaroa, IL and Mildred Fisher of Tamaroa, IL; nine grandchildren, David, Tina (John), Marcy (Jason), Chad (Afton), Ashleigh, Michael, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Skyler; six great-grandchildren, John, William, Matthew, Ryder, Jaycie and Callie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, David Dawson, two brothers, Ray Szczeblewski, and one in infancy.
Funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Nick Junker officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Mulkeytown, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, DuQuoin, IL.
