John W. Meyer's Obituary
John W. Meyer, age 71, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 9:59 p.m., in Memorial Hospital, Shiloh, IL.
John was born on March 31, 1952, in Belleville, IL, a son to Walter and Mary (Fowler) Meyer. On November 22, 1972, he married Lorraine Kennedy in Coulterville, IL and she survives. He worked as a coal miner for 23 years at the Baldwin underground mine, Baldwin, IL and as an electrician for 12 years at Lear Corporation, St. Louis, MO. John was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sparta, IL, United Auto Workers, and United Mine Workers Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. John loved all of his dogs especially Chewy and Abby Beecher. The joy of John's life was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine Meyer of Coulterville, IL; two sons, William (Hanna Beck) Meyer of Takilma, OR, and Caleb (Crystal) Meyer of Durham, NC; two daughters, Jenna (Eric Brandt) Meyer of Lawrenceville, GA, and Maria (Jeric) Burns of Coulterville, IL; one brother, Paul Meyer of Coulterville, IL; one sister, Margaret (Bill) Bumann of Eden, IL; nine grandchildren, Ezekial, Ezra, Mackenzie, Lilly, Sophia, Kylie, Owen, Zachary, and Cori; mother-in-law, Marilyn Kennedy of Pinckneyville, IL; dog, Chewy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Meyer; one grandson, Corbin Brandt; a sister, Carolyn Foster; and dog, Abby Beecher.
A funeral service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Agbasiere officiating. A rosary in honor of John will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Oakdale Cemetery, Oakdale, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
