John Paul Skorczewski's Obituary
John Paul Skorczewski, age 86, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 11:29 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room. Pinckneyville, IL. John was born June 10, 1924, in rural Perry County, the youngest of ten children, born to Stanley and Antonia (Wiesnewski) Skorczewski. He was raised as a farmer. He served in the Army Tank Corp during World War II in the South Pacific. After returning from the service he worked in Chicago for a short while, and then returned to the farm. He later worked at Decca Records for 15 years when it first opened in Pinckneyville. Later he went to work for Inland Steel Coal Company for 17 years until his retirement. John was united in marriage to Wanda L. Davis on March 21, 1970. Together they raised five children. He was a member of Friendship Church of Christ, Tamaroa, IL. John became a new testament Christian when he was 55 years old, in 1979. Shortly thereafter he dedicated his life to mission work for Jesus in Haiti, which he continued until he was no longer able to do so. Altogether he worked as a missionary in Haiti for 30 years. John is survived by his wife Wanda of Pinckneyville, IL; two sons, Dr. John P. Skorczewski, Jr. and wife Laura, and Charles J. Skorczewski and wife Martha all of Nashville, IL; two daughters, Debra L. Hitt and husband Steven of Tamaroa, IL, and Donita R. Nehrkorn and husband John of Pinckneyville, IL; ten grandchildren, John Skorczewski, Matt Skorczewski, Bryan Skorczewski, Bob Skorczewski and Sarah Skorczewski, Christina Schlipf and husband Eric, Jamie Hitt, Justin Nehrkorn and wife Rindy, Jeremy Nehrkorn, and Jordan Nehrkorn; two great grandchildren, Gabe Skorczewski and Blake Schlipf; numerous nieces, nephews, and other close relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Danny W. Giacomo, three brothers and six sisters. He had never gotten over the death of his son. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Bruce Graff and Bro. Randy Allison officiating. Interment will be in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Taking The Word of God to Haiti Christian Missions.
