John "Jack" L. Carlson's Obituary
John "Jack" L. Carlson, age 87, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at 1:50 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital Emergency Room, Pinckneyville, IL.
Jack was born on August 19, 1932 in Jamestown, NY, a son to Oscar and Ethel (LeRoy) Carlson. His mother passed away when he was very young and he was then raised by his grandparents, Ray and Eva LeRoy. Jack was a very proud veteran of the United States Air Force. While stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, IL, Jack met the love of his life, Jeanette L. Barnes. On July 11, 1953, he married Jeanette in Biloxi, MS and she survives. Early in his life, he had worked at Shell Oil Refinery, Wood River, IL and then as a supervisor at several area coal mines. He was a very active member of the United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Jack was also a member of the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL and the Methodist Men. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons, working in the yard, golfing and fishing with his brother-in-law. Jack will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Jeanette Carlson of Pinckneyville, IL; two sons, Richard (Christine) Carlson of Lake St. Louis, MO and Jim (Cheryl) Carlson of DuQuoin, IL; two daughters, Debbie (Brad) Mulkins of DuQuoin, IL and Diane (Rick) Williams of DuQuoin, IL; a stepbrother, Bob Ellis of Jamestown, NY; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two sisters, Eleanor Corstange and Diane Holmes; and a stepbrother, Jerry Ellis.
Jack's wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
