John Howell's Obituary
John Charles Howell, age 62, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 6:55 a.m., in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
John was born on July 21, 1961 in Decatur, IL, a son to Dick and Ardis Jean (Anderson) Howell. On December 4, 1982, he married Ellen Louise Meyer in Teutopolis, IL and she survives. John graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School in 1979 and attended Rend Lake College to receive his welding certificate. He was employed as a coal miner for Streamline Coal Captain Mine in the tipple, he worked mine construction at Power Technique in Alma, IL, and at Knight Hawk Coal working in tipple maintenance, mechanic and welder. John owned and operated Pinckneyville Welding and Repair with his son Mark and worked as a sanitation worker for Butch Terry. John was a member at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, IL. He also was a member for the American Threshermen's Association and Knights of Columbus, Pinckneyville, IL. John was a huge Nascar fan and his presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Ellen Howell of Pinckneyville, IL; three children, Michael (Ashlee) Howell of Tamaroa, IL, Melissa (Mike) Higgerson of Pinckneyville, IL, and Mark (Katie) Howell of Pinckneyville, IL; one brother, Bill Howell of Benton, KY; six grandchildren, Kinlee Howell, Parker Higgerson, Jackson Higgerson, Kase Howell, Milo Howell and Zella Howell; his beloved cats, Becky, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Dalton Howell; Ellen's parents; and his black labs Shadow, Bear, and Chief.
A funeral service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Carl Schrage officiating. Interment will be at Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
A visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Autism Speaks or Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support.
