JoAnn A. Cullen Maurer's Obituary
JoAnn A. Cullen Maurer, age 73, of Shiloh, IL, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 6:04 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, O'Fallon. IL.
JoAnn was born on February 18, 1950 in East St. Louis, IL, a daughter to Ralph Patrick and Wanda V. (Poor) Feurborn. She married Kenneth "Jay" Maurer on March 29, 1986 in Shiloh, IL and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2018. JoAnn was a spirited and commendable golfer as well as a shareholder of the Tamarack Golf Club. She never met a stranger and could always be counted on for making others feel like part of her family. Her hug exchanges inspired cheer and laughter wherever she went. JoAnn was adventurous and enjoyed deer hunting, ATV riding, 50's music, and cowboy movies. She also enjoyed going out to eat. She and Jay dedicated a number of years racing at and running the go-kart track in Coulterville, IL. JoAnn's world was focused on her family, who she loved dearly. She especially loved having big family dinners at her beloved home "down at the farm".
Survivors include her: daughter, Vicki (Michael) Gothard of Shiloh, IL; stepchildren: Christine (Joseph) Begue of Springfield, IL, Kevin (Kimberly) Crites of Elkland, MO, Kimberly (John) Garrett of Imperial, MO, and Jennifer Maurer of Belleville, IL; brother, Timothy Cullen; sisters, Lynda (Ronnie) Cullen Abernathy, Sandra (Fred) Cullen Storr, Kelly (Mark) Cullen Bramlett; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cullen, and Jan (John) Armour; grandchildren; Samantha (Thomas) Santistevan-Reed, Amarante "AC" Santistevan, and Jacob Gothard; step-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Crites; great-granddaughter, Abigail Reed; and nieces and nephews, Victoria Cullen, Joshua Storr, Travis Storr, Heather Cullen and Jason (Tony) Hertlein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Maurer; and a brother, Michael Cullen.
JoAnn's wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to St. Clair County Humane Society.
