Jason A. Smith's Obituary
Jason Smith, 37, of New Athens, IL, formerly of Coulterville, passed away on January 27, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. Jason's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understand the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Jason's battle with cancer was long and hard and he was a true fighter. Despite the obstacles he faced in the last two years of his life, he always had a smile on his face. His only complaints on his way to treatments were the A Team's driving. Once there, he was all smiles. No complaints...just a simple request for a corner seat. The nurses enjoyed his teasing and always looked forward to his visits. Outside of treatments, he was the same. Rarely complained...just thankful for one more day with his wife and family. Jason loved many activities including camping, fishing, hunting, and game night with his family. He was very adventurous and was never afraid to try new things. His most memorable childhood days were his trips to the Black River in Lesterville, MO and riding four wheelers with his dad. Jason was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed going to the ballpark whenever he had the chance. All-inclusive seats, of course...only the best for Jason. When Jason was too weak to get out independently, he spent his time collecting and categorizing his baseball cards. Jason is survived by his wife and best friend, Kelly (Pannier) Smith, mother and step-father, Kim and Lester Huckaby, sister, Mikel Smith, maternal grandparents, Bob and Judy Curt, step-sister, Amanda Roulston, step-brother, Brandon Huckaby, two nieces, Mackenzie and Ashley Roulston, one nephew, David Roulston, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Jason loved and will be missed dearly by his pets Baby, Molly and his best buddy, Ripley. He was preceded in death by his father, James "Mouse" Smith, paternal grandparents, Bill and Sue Smith, his Uncle Ricky, and his beloved dogs, Shadow, Dakota, Zoey and Sadie Mae. A Celebration of Life for Jason will be held in the Coulterville School Gymnasium on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jason to The Jason Motte Foundation at www.jasonmottefoundation.org. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
