Janet Denise Szczepanski's Obituary
Janet Denise Szczepanski, age 58, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 7:01 p.m., in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Janet was born on May 26, 1966, in Canton, IL; a daughter to Bernard Lee and Phyllis June (Morse) Baker. On June 11, 1982, she married Russell E. Winter in Pinckneyville, IL and had two daughters. Later in life she remarried Kreston M. Szczepanski on October 1, 2003, in Tamaroa, IL and he survives. She attended Rend Lake College and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in Criminal Justice. Janet worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Corrections, Pinckneyville, IL, as a Correctional Officer for 25 years until her retirement. Janet was a member at Friendship Church of Christ in Tamaroa, IL. She belonged to the Consolidated 204 School Board as well as a member of the Pinckneyville Booster Club. Janet loved cooking and helping the elders of The Manor of Mason Woods. Janet had a great love for sports and was a volleyball coach for 13 years, an avid Pinckneyville Panther basketball fan and a great love of 204 School. Family has always been #1 to Janet and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include three children, Jennifer Winter of Pinckneyville, IL, Natasha Winter of Evansville, IN, and Vaden Szczepanski of Pinckneyville, IL; two step-daughters, Haley Szczepanski of Pinckneyville, IL and Olivia Szczepanski of Tamaroa, IL; one grandson, Andrew Jett; three siblings, Eric (Francie) Baker of Pinckneyville, IL, Vicki McMaster of DuQuoin, IL, and Phillip (Yvette) Baker of Pinckneyville, IL; one half-sister, Christina Ford of Smithfield, IL; four nephews; four nieces; two great-nephews; and four great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband, Russell E. Winter.
Funeral service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with Brother Collin Hirsch officiating. Interment will be in Campbell Cemetery, Tamaroa, IL.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
