James William "Bill" Sweet's Obituary
James William "Bill" Sweet was born on May 18, 1949, and passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents James Percy and Audrey Opal (nee. Smith) Sweet, and by his wife Voncile. Bill is survived by his siblings: Donna, Lily, Teresa, John, Bjorn, Gus, and Jana along with their families.
Bill was a resident of Coulterville Care Center for the last several years. Before residing at the Care Center, Bill attended the Methodist Church for worship services and for fellowship with others. Bill read and studied the Bible, and was always ready to share the reason for his faith in God.
As a young boy, Bill developed a love of farming and gardening. Some of his favorite memories were of visits to his maternal grandparents at the farm in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Immediately after finishing high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy to study nuclear engineering. He, also, developed an interest in firearms and collecting guns. After six years of service and honorable discharge from the Navy, Bill lived in Mobile, Alabama. Bill met and married his wife, Voncile in Alabama. Alabama was also where Bill tried his hand at goat farming. Bill developed health problems while living in Alabama, and his family encouraged him to move to Coulterville, IL. Bill pursued his childhood interest in gardening while living in Coulterville, and he was always happy to attend family gatherings.
Bill loved his siblings and their families dearly, but he was looking forward to his eternal home in heaven where there would be no more tears, pain or sorrow. It was his wish to be buried in Alabama next to his wife Voncile. A private memorial service for family will take place at Bill's gravesite in Alabama.
Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL has been entrusted with the arrangements.
