James "Jim" Curtis Wenzel, Jr.'s Obituary
James "Jim" Curtis Wenzel, Jr., age 63, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 7:14 p.m. in Sparta Community Hospital Emergency Room, Sparta, IL. Jim was born on December 1, 1949 in Mesa, AZ, a son to James Curtis and Zua (Hood) Wenzel, Sr. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp having obtained the rank of corporal, earning a Purple Heart and being honorably discharged after serving during the Vietnam War. On February 21, 2004, he married Phyllis Frieman at the Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL and she survives. He was retired as the owner of Palm Graphics, Fairview Heights, IL. Jim was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6865, Coulterville, IL, a N.R.A. supporter, enjoyed traveling, was a master carpenter who loved helping others with their carpentry work and the kind of man who "could never say no". His greatest passion was golfing. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wenzel of Coulterville, IL; mother, Zua (Donald) Rehbein of Belleville, IL; a daughter, Stephanie Wenzel of Dalzell, IL; two sons, Ryan (Sally) Wenzel of Ladd, IL and Chad Wenzel of Cumming, GA; father-in-law, Howard Frieman of Coulterville, IL; a step-son, Michael Thorbin of Elkville, IL; a step-daughter, Michelle (Matt) Marshall of Virginia Beach, VA; four sisters, Judith Ann (Ron) Mueller of Hot Springs, AR, Rose Marie McKee of Kansas, MO, Eva E. (Howard) Pannier of Marissa, IL, and Myra L. (Brad) Sewald of Mascoutah, IL; eight grandchildren, Gianna, Brooke, Krista "Nugg", Makenna, Aidan, Matt "Major", Natalie and Caroline; and his best friend, his dog, Chloe. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Louis Wenzel. Funeral services will be held at the Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Clifton Lingle officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL with graveside military rites provided by V.F.W. Post #6865, Coulterville, IL. Friends may call at the Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Coulterville United Methodist Church or Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL.
