Irene Fontana's Obituary
Irene Fontana, age 80, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007, at 8:05 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Irene was born in Rice, IL, a daughter of Leonard and Pearl (Keller) Dempsey. On May 9, 1950, she married Albert Fontana of Pinckneyville at St. Bruno Rectory in Pinckneyville. She worked at the former Pinckneyville Garment Factory as an inspector and retired from the Pinckneyville Community Hospital where she worked on the medical floor as a certified nurses' aide. She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, and the Rose Society of Greater St. Louis. She was a seamstress working from her home for many years and loved to read, crochet, knit, embroider, loved gadgets, and was very good at repairs around the house. Survivors include four children: Dennis and wife Jane Fontana of Pinckneyville, Donna and husband Peter Watson of Shiloh, IL, Anthony Fontana and wife Kathryn Jenkel of Carbondale, IL, and Rita and husband Joel McIntyre of Pinckneyville, IL, and three grandchildren: Sarah Fontana, Tara and Noelle McIntyre. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Georgia Dempsey and Mae Millikin and one brother: Enloe Dempsey, and two grandchildren: Christina and Adam McIntyre. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited on Monday at 9:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Catholic Church.
