Hubert Cullen Place's Obituary
Hubert Cullen "Hubie" Place, age 70, of O'Fallon, IL, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on January 17, 2009 at 7:50 p.m. in Touchette Regional Hospital ER in Centreville, IL. Hubie was born on January 14, 1939 in Pinckneyville, IL a son to Hubert E. and Effie (Hougland) Place. On April 3, 1961, he married Janet Heisner in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He was a member of the United States Air Force where he served as a navigator, pilot, missileer and Space Commander. He retired from military service after thirty years reaching the rank of Colonel. He was head of human resources for Arch of Illinois, served as the director of human resources for McKendree College, and was a member of the Order of the Daedalions. Hubie enjoyed serving his country, family, traveling, tinkering around his yard and home, but he loved raising his two daughters and dancing with his wife. He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Place of O'Fallon, IL, two daughters: Michelle R. Place (Craig S. Girard) of Arlington, VA and Daphne L. Place of Farmington, NM; one brother: Gene (Patricia) Place of Pinckneyville, IL; two sisters: Marilyn (Leonard) Heisner of Pinckneyville, IL and Sandra (Harold) Francis of Nashville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister: Monya Cox. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
