Hiram Porter's Obituary
Hiram Porter, age 77, of Oakdale, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville, IL. Hiram was born on February 8, 1934, in Oakdale, IL, a son to Richard and Lillie (Schaeffer) Porter. On November 21, 1955, he married Phyllis Huff in Chester, IL and she survives. Hiram was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Rice, IL and a member of V.F.W. Post 4082, Nashville, IL. He worked for the Pilot Knob Township for 20 years, worked coal mine construction for 15 years and was a farmer. Hiram loved raising and breeding horses and was proud of his registered Welsh Ponies and Halflinger Horses. Hiram is survived by his wife, Phyllis Porter of Oakdale, IL; two children, Roger Dale "Bo" Porter and Barb Porter (Donnie McClaine), all of Coulterville, IL; two brothers, Lester (Doris) Porter and Allen (Jean) Porter, all of Nashville, IL; three sisters, Elsie Campbell of Nashville, IL, Lillian (Arnold) Bathon of Nashville, IL, and Eileen (Loren) Scronce of Normal, IL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved rat terrier, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Athel (Selma) Porter; sister, Annabelle (Williard) Williams; and brother-in-law, Raymond Campbell. Funeral services will be held at Concord Baptist Church, Rice, IL on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Spiller officiating. Interment will be in Pilot Knob Cemetery, Oakdale, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Oakdale, IL on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or American Diabetes Association.
