Herbert Lloyd Burnett's Obituary
Herbert Lloyd "Monk" Burnett, age 93, of Coulterville, IL went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 8:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, IL. Herbert was born on February 18, 1915, a son to Herbert and Maude (Redfern) Burnett. He married Elizabeth Ann Hill on June 25, 1938 and she preceded him in death on February 22, 1988. He was a member of the Calvary Church, Sparta, IL, worked for over 30 years as a coal miner and retired from Zeigler Coal Co., worked for Jet Oil, served in the C.C.C. Camp in Shawneetown, IL before W.W. II, was a member of the U.M.W.A. and a deacon for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, puzzle books, and embroidering many quilts for his family. Herbert is survived by five sons: Lloyd Roger (Beverly) Burnett of Peoria, IL, Robert James Burnett of Belleville, IL, Edward Ray (Linda) Burnett of Coulterville, IL, Herbert Roy (Sue) Burnett of Tilden, IL and Harry Leroy (Irma) Burnett of Morton, IL, two daughters: Alberta Marie Woodside of Coulterville, IL and Marjorie Arlene (Roy) Hackworth of Pinckneyville, IL, twenty five grandchildren, thirty one great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son: David Eugene Burnett, two grand-daughters: Deanna Burnett and Dawn Elaine Rieger, three sisters: Dorothy Mitchell, Beatrice Hapke and Thelma Fike, three brothers: James Floyd, Allen and John Burnett, one great-grandson: Mitchell Johnson, one son-in-law: Dale Woodside and one daughter-in-law: Sharon Burnett. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Church, Sparta, IL on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Tim McIntyre officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Calvary Church, Sparta, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Church Building Fund. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
