Helen Hood's Obituary
Helen Hood, age 94, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Coulterville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Coulterville, IL.
Helen was born on December 13, 1926 in Coulterville, IL, a daughter to William Curtis and Margaret (O'Neill) Sheeler. On August 18, 1945 she married Roger Hood in Vandalia, IL. They were married for sixty seven years. Helen was a member of the Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL, the Coulterville Women's Club, Royal Neighbors of America and the Coulterville V.F.W. Auxiliary Post# 6865. Helen was an avid reader. She was an amazing homemaker and cook who was known for her incredible chicken and dumplings, spaghetti, chocolate pies, gravy and toast, and cookies. Her grandchildren each had their favorite cookie that Helen made for them. Her true passion was her family. She cherished spending time and feeding them. Her family was her life.
Survivors include her son, Parley (Deborah) Hood of Coulterville, IL; two daughters, Trudy (John) Calvetti of Coulterville, IL and Tonya (David) Thompson of Oakdale, IL; eight grandchildren, Aaron (Erin) Hood, John (Virginia) Calvetti, Wesley Thompson (Alexis Siltman), Daralynn (Robert) Gross, Jocelyn Calvetti, Mitchell Thompson, Jesse (Dawn) Hood and Andrew (Germaine) Calvetti; fourteen great-grandchildren, Tre Calvetti, Zacary Calvetti, Jerica Cruise, Joseph Cruise, Chance Cruise, Giuseppe Calvetti, Stella Calvetti, Sydney Hood, Jenna Hood, Owen Gross, Jacoby Gross, Lydia Hood, Kiera Hood and Trinity Hood; two brothers, Charles "Bud" (Anna Marie) Sheeler of Coulterville, IL, and Tom (Betty) Sheeler of Belleville, IL; and one sister, Joan Hurst of Coulterville, IL.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Franklin "Frank" Sheeler, and one sister, Marguerite Menefee.
Private services will be held with Pastor Cody Battefeld officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL.
Due to health concerns related to the Covid-19 virus attendance will be limited and social distancing will be enforced. We ask that all attendees wear a mask.
