Harry Russell "Pee-Wee" Hood's Obituary
Harry Russell "Pee-Wee" Hood, age 86, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:17 p.m. in Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, IL.
Harry was born on December 10, 1936 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Harrie and Clara (Craig) Hood. On June 18, 1960, he married Wanda Grote in Pinckneyville, IL at the Beaucoup Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on December 21, 1999. He later married Patricia "Pat" Hendrickson at the courthouse in Belleville, IL on December 24, 1985. She survives him. Harry honorably served his country in the United States Army. He worked over thirty-five years as a coal miner for several mines. Harry worked for the Peabody coal, Monterey coal, and the Ziegler coal mine. He drove a truck for Barr trucking as well. He was a baseball fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and all of the teams he coached that his sons played on. He coached Khoury League from the time they were 5 years old until they were out of school, with much success. He was an avid fisherman who spent as much of his free time on the lake as possible. In 1970, Harry was one of the founding members of the Kincaid Lake Bass Club. Harry enjoyed golfing with his children and after retirement he worked at the White Oak Golf Course in Marissa, IL for over ten years until he was 80 years old. He spent countless hours helping other kids on and off the golf course through the years learn the game and all of its lessons. Harry was a big part of the community's athletics and also liked gardening. He loved spending time with his family especially, with his children. Harry will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hood of Coulterville, IL; two sons, Douglas Hood of Coulterville, IL and Dennis (Kim) Hood also of Coulterville, IL; one daughter, Megan Hood of Thompsonville, IL; three brothers, Glen Hood, Robert "Buck" Hood, and Raymond (Jaci) Hood all of Coulterville, IL; seven sisters, Omah (Bud) Jebron of Coulterville, IL, Naomi Bumann of Eden, IL, Helen Harstick of Coulterville, IL, Barbara Rester of Coulterville, IL, June (Klif) Kline of Coulterville, IL, Lavon Conley-Hood of St. Libory, IL, and Dorothy Harrell of Elkton, IL; three grandchildren, Lindy (Justin) Odum of O'fallon, IL, Christy Hood of Shiloh, IL, and Dustin Hood of Coulterville, IL; and several Nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Wanda Hood; one brother, Alex Hood; two sisters, Mary Hood and Ethel Hood.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with James Earl Harrison officiating. Interment will be in Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Coulterville High School Bass Fishing Team.
