Harold Burton Hays' Obituary
Harold Burton Hays, age 81, of Tamaroa, passed away at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 in the V.A. Medical Center Nursing Home, Marion. Harold was born on January 28, 1926 in Jefferson County, IL, a son to Chalen and Anna (Eldridge) Hays. He was a veteran and was injured in Japan while serving in the United States Army during World War II. On June 8, 1951, he married Maxine I. Dempsey in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He was a coal miner and construction worker, a member of First Baptist Church, DuQuoin, U.M.W.A. and liked playing cards with his friends, hunting, fishing, bowling, and some traveling. Survivors include his wife: Maxine of Tamaroa, a son: Brian Todd Hays of DuQuoin, a brother: Raymond Hays of Benton, five sisters: Laura Weatherford of Pinckneyville, Roberta Phillips of Pinckneyville, Wondola Hall of Monmouth, IL, Virginia Presswood of Georgia and Zelda Presswood and husband Virgil of Monmouth, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Kenneth Hays, a sister: Loretta Morgenthaler, seven brothers-in-law: Kenny Hall, Rolland Presswood, Rick Presswood, Don Halstead, Frank Weatherford, Elmer Phillips, and Jake Morgenthaler, a granddaughter: Stacy Hays, and a daughter-in-law: Paula Hays. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, DuQuoin on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, DuQuoin. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, DuQuoin on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
