Harlan M. "Shine" Yeager's Obituary
Harlan M. "Shine" Yeager, age 87, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 1:00 a.m. in Pinckneyville Healthcare Center, Pinckneyville, IL. Shine was born on September 5, 1928 in Ft. Branch, IN, a son to Amel "Shine" and Thelma (Barrett) Yeager. On May 27, 1950, he married Helen Maxine Hester in Pinckneyville, IL and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2010. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and was the owner and operator of Yeager Electric, Pinckneyville, IL for many years. Shine was an active member of the Pinckneyville Lions Club where he had served as past president, was a lifetime member of the Southern Illinois Coal Belt Fire Protection Association and was a retired member of IBEW Local 702. He also served on several boards, including Pinckneyville Community High School board as well as the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce where he had served as past president as well as treasurer. Shine served on the City of Pinckneyville Board of Commissioners, having held every seat except the Street Department as well as serving as the mayor. He served on the Pinckneyville Volunteer Fire Department having also served as fire chief, he was a past Special Deputy for the Perry County Sherriff Department and Pinckneyville Civil Defense. Shine was an official member of Kellermans Feed Store coffee club, a member of the Pinckneyville Booster Club and an avid Pinckneyville Panther fan. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Marty) Kirby of Pinckneyville, IL and Connie (Doug) Valentine of Pinckneyville, IL; three grandchildren, Amanda Kirby (Brett Roeder) of Tempe, AZ, Katie (Brian) Smith of Charlotte, NC and Ryan (Stephanie) Valentine of Pinckneyville, IL; one brother, Donald (Fran) Yeager of Pinckneyville, IL; sister-in-law, Sharon (Nelson) Rule of Pinckneyville, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Gerald Yeager. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Jay Lowder officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Pinckneyville Lions Club or Pinckneyville Firemen's Association. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
