Golda Fern Matson's Obituary
Golda Fern Matson, age 98, a former resident of Pinckneyville, IL, and Belleville, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 5:05 p.m. in Marana, AZ. Fern was born in Perry County, IL on September 4, 1907 a daughter of Alfred Chalmers and Augusta (Gerstenslager) Stevenson. She married Leo C. Matson and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was of the Presbyterian faith, a member of the Royal Neighbors, an avid reader, worked for many years a bookkeeper, was a graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School. Fern was a caring person who loved to help people in need, enjoyed flower gardening and caring for animals and birds. Survivors include her son: Harrison E. Matson, and his wife, Becky, of Marana, AZ, and their children: Audrey and Austin, a sister: Gladys Dann of Carbondale, along with other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant brother. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville. Friends may call at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. till 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Perry County Human Society.
