Glen Rice's Obituary
Glen Dean Rice, age 79, of Coulterville, IL, passed away at 3:20 a.m., on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
Glen was born on August 12, 1945 in Du Quoin, IL, a son to Alva and Gladys (Cowley) Rice. In June of 1964 , he married Launa Kay Zachies at Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL. He later married Nadine (Hood) nee Cantrel on February 4, 1984, at Concord Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2020. In his early career he was a body man, he retired as a UMWA Coal Miner. Glen was a member and Deacon at Concord Baptist Church. He served as president of Concord Baptist Cemetery Committee for many years. Glen was a life member of the Tilden Coon Club. His hobbies included coon, dove, deer, squirrel, and mushroom hunting, as well as fishing.
Survivors include his five children, Paul Rice, Melody (Tim) Schaeffer, all of Oakdale, IL, Belinda Hood (Dwight Delay) of Coulterville, IL, Betty (Tom) Clark of Ramsey, IL, and Paula H. Kearns of Coulterville, IL; three siblings, Steven (Beverly) Rice, Kenneth (Debbie) Rice, all of Davenport, IA, and Linda (Tim) Polo of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Josephine Price of Coulterville, IL; twelve grandchildren; and a lot of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nadine; and nine siblings, Nelson Rice, Carl Rice, Purl Rice, Loren Rice, Martha Melvin, Alta Elder, Wilma Cope, Christine Keller, and Mildred Vance.
Funeral services will be held at Concord Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., with Brother Gary Pate, Brother Tim McIntyre, and Brother Tom Spiller officiating.
Visitation will be at Concord Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Concord Baptist Cemetery.
