George L. Kirkland's Obituary
George L. Kirkland, age 76, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 6:39 a.m. in his home.
George was born on September 27, 1945 in Sparta, IL, a son to Jesse and Geraldine (Appel) Kirkland. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On December 7, 1968, he married Judith K. "Judy" Womack in Sparta, IL. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2014 after 45 years of marriage. George was a previous member of the Sparta V.F.W. and the Coulterville town board. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns like Gunsmoke and picking and cracking pecans. He would wage war on the squirrels who would mess with his pecans. George loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was passionate about horseracing. George will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his three daughters, Charity (Scott) Zacheis of Oakdale, IL, LeeAnne Schoonover (Fiancé, Mark Tittle) of Pinckneyville, IL, and Sammie (Gary) Prest of Pinckneyville, IL; seven grandchildren, Hailey, Stacia, Cassidy, Josh, Kaci, Mackenzie "Bones", and Jalia; and four great grandchildren, Landyn, Audrey, Chasen and Kysen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Ada Womack.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL with graveside military rites by the Coulterville V.F.W. Post #6865 and the United States Army.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Covid-19 mandates will be adhered to.
