George L. Elder's Obituary
George L. Elder, age 71, of Tamaroa, IL, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 8:30 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
George was born on April 15, 1949 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Lonnie R. and Alta M. (Rice) Elder. On October 7, 1994, he married Shari J. DeFord in Paducah, KY and she survives. George had worked for Turco, Sunbeam and Charm Glow as a industrial painter. He was a member of DuQuoin Saddle Club, where he showed horses and had judged for the special Olympics. George could fix any especially cars, trucks and lawn mowers and enjoyed advising people how to fix anything. He loved doing carpenter work, mowing lawns for his family, taking care of his family, spending time with family and watching old westerns; especially Gunsmoke with his daughter.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Shari Elder of Tamaroa, IL; two sons, Travis Elder of Marion, IL and Alan (Candace) Elder of Willisville, IL; one daughter, Jena Elder of Tamaroa, IL; seven grandchildren, Ashley Bell of Winter Haven, FL, Danielle (Michael) Hayes of Pinckneyville, IL, Skyler Elder of Pinckneyville, IL, Raven (Matt) Elder of Willisville, IL, Travis Elder, Jr. of Marion, IL, Brianne Knowles of Decatur, IL and Autumn. Eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie (Linda) Elder of Tamaroa, IL; four sisters, Marilyn Sue (Richard) Harris of Tamaroa, IL, Alta Ruth Glazebrook of Springfield, MO, Barbara (Gene) Percifull of Pinckneyville, IL and Stella McKennon of Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a dog, Blayke.
A private graveside service will be held at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
A private visitation service will be held at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
Due to health concerns related to the Covid-19 virus and by the signing of executive order by Governor J.B. Pritzker, Phase Four attendance will be limited to 50 people and social distancing will be enforced.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Pinckneyville Hospital especially the nursing and cafeteria staff.
