George Douglas Gann's Obituary
George Douglas Gann, age 91, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away Saturday Morning, June 16, 2007, at his home in Pinckneyville, IL. George was born May 26, 1916 in Holden, MO, the son of Luther T. and Beaulah Mae (Kock) Gann Sr. George was united in marriage to Alberta 'Bertie' McDaniel, June 26, 1939 in Kansas City, MO and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1982. He then married Grace (Clark) Dinkins on July 13, 1983 in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. George was a graduate of Holden, MO High School in 1934, a member of the United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL, a member of the choir as a tenor from 1951 to 1992, Sunday School Superintendent for four years, and a Pinckneyville Lion's Club member for twenty years. George was an owner of the Gann and Bender Grocery store in Pinckneyville, IL for 40 years, an avid fisherman, gardener, loved golf and spent winters in Florida from 1983 to 1990. George was a lifelong, meticulous and disciplined statistician making daily journal entries and keeping precise records. George is survived by his wife Grace L. Gann of Pinckneyville, IL, three sons; Rev. Ronald E. Gann and wife Phyllis of Pensacola, FL, Brent D. Gann and wife Ann of Troy, IL, and Joel V. Gann and wife Carol of O'Fallon, IL, one daughter, Paulette M. Sandall of Peoria, IL, two brothers, Luther T. Gann Jr. of Holden, MO, James Edward Gann and wife Alice of Sparta, IL, two sisters, Martha Clinger of Holden, MO and Mary Bryant of Clinton, MO, eleven grandchildren, Tami Lynn Clark, Jo Etta Gann, Lane Allen Gann, Melody Klaskala, Manya Morohovich, Rebecca Weddell, Damon Sandall, Alyssa Nicole Gann, Danielle James, Nicolas Fuse, Jr., Dustin Joel Gann, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. George is also survived by two step-sons, Donald R. Dinkins and wife Marilyn, Charles A. Dinkins and wife Carolyn, seven step-grandchildren, Chad Dinkins, Cheryl Clark, Patrick Dinkins, Donald A. Dinkins, Michael Dinkins, Jeff Dinkins, Lisa Dinkins, and eight step-great-grandchildren. George was preceded by his parents, first wife 'Bertie', a daughter, Carolyn, two brothers, Kenneth and Joseph Gann. Funeral services will be at the United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville, IL, Tuesday morning, June 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James Barnett and Reverend Ronald E. Gann officiating. Interment will be in the Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. then at the Church on Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. till services. Memorials may be made to the Luke Memorial Hospice or the United Methodist Church of Pinckneyville, IL.
