George Edward Flure's Obituary
George Edward Flure, age 93, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 2:10 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
George was born on February 10, 1929 in Rice, IL, a son to John and Rose (Magerkurth) Flure. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served twice. His first service was in World War II and later in the Korean War. On April 25, 1953, he married Virginia Marie Epplin at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. George was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL. He had worked as a coal miner at Consol Burning Star Mine #2 for over 20 years, as well as, having worked as a farmer and a construction worker. George was a member of the UMWA, Local #1825, and the Perry County Farm Bureau. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler to check on his cows, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Flure of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, Mike (Carla) Flure of Pinckneyville, IL; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Hanson of Swansea, IL and Angela (Mike) Griffin of Pinckneyville, IL; a sister, Catherine Smith of Pinckneyville, IL; four grandchildren, Gavin (Leia) Flure, Dustin Crews (fiancé, Christina Bruns), Gayla Flure, and Breanna Burris; six great-grandchildren, Stella Crews, Braxton Burris, Clayton Crews, Holland Burris, Cammie Flure, and Ivy Flure; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Flure, Charles Flure, and Floyd Stern; and two sisters, Dorothy Flure and Ella Kellerman.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Andrew Knopik officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with military graveside rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.
Visitation will be at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The rosary will be recited on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Cemetery or Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.
