Gene Malott's Obituary
Gene Malott, age 85, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 8:07 p.m. in Randolph County Care Center, Sparta, IL.
Gene was born on February 26, 1938 in Washington County, IL, a son to Ardell and Bessie V. (Arnett) Malott. He was a member of the Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL and the Coulterville Lion's Club for several years. Gene worked as a coal miner at the Baldwin Mine and a laborer who worked on the roads. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Gene enjoyed teaching Sunday School, playing bingo at the nursing home, and always had a big garden. Gene was passionate about music, he played several instruments such as the guitar, piano, fiddle, and banjo. Gene was also a dedicated precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. Gene will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his six children, Dan (Tiffany) Malott of Pinckneyville, IL, Gina Maxedon of Pinckneyville, Jack (Ashley) Malott of St. Libory, IL, Rachelle (James) Ritchason of Marissa, IL, Charlie Brizzee of Fruitland, Idaho, and Jenny (Jeff) Smith of Coulterville, IL; one brother, Jim (Amy) Malott of Tilden, IL; nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Morgan (Jade), Melissa, Justin, Jeremy, Gunner, Emily, Katelynn, and Gemma; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Ewart Malott, Jerry Malott, Jackie Malott (in infancy), Kenneth Malott, and George Malott; and one sister, Dolores Cook.
A memorial service will be held at the Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL, on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Higgerson officiating. Interment will be at Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL.
Visitation will be held at Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL, on Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
