Gayla Marlene Dobrinick's Obituary
Gayla Dobrinick, age 63, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Newburgh, IN on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 3:58 a.m. after a brief illness.
Gayla was born on November 22, 1959 in Jonesville, LA, a daughter to Alton Wylis and Nedra Irene (Gordon) White. On December 5, 1981, she married Charles "Chuck" Dobrinick in Monroe, LA, and he survives. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
Gayla spent the majority of her life as a caregiver. First by raising her three daughters and ensuring that she went to nearly every field trip, volunteering at school parties and making sure their every need and want was met. Later in life, she made a career of caring for people as they prepared to leave this life. Once she became a Grammy, her focus turned to helping care for her sweet boys whenever she could.
She may be best known for her infectious laugh and willingness to do whatever she could to help those who needed her. Gayla made the best Gumbo in the world and had an innate artistic ability she used to create beautiful Christmas decorations and displays to the delight of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include Gayla's mother, Nedra (Johnny) Gunter of Monroe, LA; her husband of 41 years, Chuck of Pinckneyville, IL; three daughters, Hanna (Joshua) Rux of Fort Sill, OK; Alycia (Neil) Reitenbach of Jackson, MO, and Sabrina (Patrick) Hilbert of Lindenhurst, IL; a sister, Sonja (Kenneth) Hickingbottom of Monroe, LA; five grandchildren, Charlie, Henry, and William Rux, and Jeremy and Marshall Reitenbach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and two infant grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Sam Foskey officiating. Interment will be in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Gerre Luke Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the donor's choice. The family asks that you do something today in honor of Gayla: make friends with a stranger, offer to help someone in need, or just give someone a hug.
