Gary Lee Carson's Obituary
Gary Lee "Bean Can" Carson, age 73, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 9:08 a.m. in his home in Pinckneyville, IL, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born on April 6, 1947 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Howard L. and Charity L. "Jackie" (Fisher) Carson. On October 19, 1968, he married Rebecca Lee Laird at the 204 school in Pinckneyville, IL. Gary worked as a Mechanic and Welder for all of his life. He was a member of the Sparta VFW and the Moose, Pinckneyville, IL. Gary honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War where he served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp. Gary loved all things cars; especially drag racing and watching NASCAR where he would root for Dale Earnhardt. He was exceptional at drawing and writing. He loved listening to his brother play guitar. Most of all he loved playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two sons, Clinton (Bobbi Jo) Carson of Pinckneyville, IL and Cory Carson of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, John Edward "Eddie" (Rosie) Carson of Pinckneyville, IL; one sister, Toni (Richard) Engelhardt of Pinckneyville, IL; four granddaughters, Angelica (Chris) Bobbitt of Mt. Carmel, IL, Hailey (Troy) Keuhne of Mt. Carmel, IL, Shainna Carson of Palm Beach, FL and Hannah Marie Carson of Pinckneyville, IL; one great grandchild, Oliver Mann of Pinckneyville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Benjamin Carson.
Gary was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later time.
Covid resurgence restrictions will be adhered to, attendance will be limited and social distancing will be enforced. All attendees are asked to wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
