Father David Lee Braun's Obituary
Reverend David Lee Braun, age 71, of Wendelin, IL, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. in his home. Father David and his brother, Dean, were born on April 19, 1938 in DuQuoin, IL, identical twin sons to Leo Anton and Georgia Naomi (Talley) Braun. David and Dean were both ordained priests. Father David was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William Cosgrove on June 6, 1981 and served at parishes in Centreville, East St. Louis, Centralia, Ridgway, Wendelin and Stringtown, IL. Survivors include his son, Mark Anthony (Kourtnie) Braun of Monroe, MI; a granddaughter, Gwendolyn Braun; two brothers, Donald K. Braun of Pinckneyville, IL, and James Leeland (Joyce) Braun of Abingdon, VA; and numerous other relatives, parishioners, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin brother, Father Dean Edward Braun. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Wendelin, IL on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. The Most Reverend Stanley G. Schlarman will be Prinicipal Celebrant and The Reverend Monsignor Marvin C. Volk will be the Homilist with priests of the Belleville Diocese concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL with a committal service being held on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Rite of Christian Burial will begin with the Reception of the Body at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Wendelin, IL on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. by the Reverend Monsignor Marvin C. Volk. Visitation will be held at the church from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. In addition, a graveside visitation will be held at the St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Wendelin, IL; St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stringtown, IL; St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL; or Masses. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
